Driveabout: Day 6

Most touristy thing we've done: visiting Myrtle Manor

Most touristy thing we've done: visiting Myrtle Manor

A slight break in the rainfall gave us the opportunity to roll out from the campground, grab some yummy breakfast at Southern House of Pancakes in Atlantic Beach, SC, before heading over to Myrtle Manor Trailer Park.  Jae was excited to visit as she's an avid watcher of the show, which I didn't even realize existed.  Still, it was fun to roll on up to the shooting set and see some of the locales from the single episode I viewed to prep me for the excursion.  We didn't see any residents as it was still pretty gloomy and wet as we cruised through the park, which is a lot bigger and nicer than is shown on television, but we saw some iconographic stuff, which Jae giddily pointed out as we passed.

"Lucky" at Myrtle Manor!

We arrived in New Bern, North Carolina with a plan to walk downtown and find a place to eat before camping for the night.  Parking Rita, at 21 feet long, is a no-brainer; I've been doing it for five years.  Parking Lucky (well, he's a leprechaun, after all) requires strategy and, thankfully, they had some diagonal spots right nearby our destination.

Having perused some of the offerings prior to arriving, we recognized Prohibition Drinks and Desserts and went in for a beverage, enjoying pleasant and revealing conversation with the bartender and one of the locals (by way of the UK - how often do you meet aerospace engineers at the bar?), and then headed off to Morgan's Tavern and Grill, a swell eatery located inside what used to be an old car repair shop.  Too cool.

We are the only patrons of Prohibition tonight!

We checked into a KOA, leveled out the coach and settled in for the night.  Falling asleep to the tap-dancing of gnomes, another day would dawn very soon.
