Somethin' Bout A Quick Turnaround

listen closely mama, hear what I have to say
listen closely mama, hear what I have to say
you better do right by me or I’m leaving here someday

fool me once little girl, shame on you
fool me once little girl, shame on you
if you ever fool me again, I’m telling you we’re through

I work hard for the money and I bring it straight home
I work hard for the money and I bring it straight home
now you pullin’ out your pockets, tell me where’s that money gone?

you say that you’re sorry, but I’ve heard that all before
you say that you’re so sorry baby, but I’ve heard that all before
well you sure gonna be sorry when I’m walkin’ out that door

listen closely mama, hear what I have to say
listen closely mama, hear what I have to say
you better do right by me

There's something to be said for inspiration that comes from enthusiastic support!  I've been working feverishly on "All Songs Lead To The Gift Shop" for the past few weeks and the music has been coming hard and fast.  This tune, "Listen Closely Mama", was written and the basic tracks recorded yesterday.  Today, I wrapped vocals and horn parts (all with Bear Meadow Concert Grand) and it's already in the mixing phase.  The most complex of the four tracks recorded so far, yet the most fun and definitely the most danceable, it's going to take a little while to get the levels and e.q. right, but I'm excited about what this promises for the CD.  It's definitely going to be an eclectic mix, made all the more interesting due to the face that everything but the drum tracks and vocals will be done with just the Concert Grand MIDI dulcimer.

This is a fired-up Chicago style blues tune with a sassy bass line, chiming guitars and stacks of horns providing the bed for a lead vocal that was partially inspired by Buddy Guy, one of my favorite blues musicians.  Can't wait to lay it on you, baby!
